Content description

REEL 1 Background in Liverpool, GB, 1925-1943: family; education; employment with shipping firm including dealing with damaged tinned food. Aspects of enlistment and training with Royal Corps of Signals in GB, 1943: enlistment; pattern of basic training at No 6 Primary Training Centre, Prestatyn; recruit who had problems training on Bren Gun; move to No 5 Operators Training Bn at Slaithwaite, 6/1943; character of accommodation in mill; nature of signals training; instructors and band; qualifying as signaller. Aspects of period as signaller with No 4 Special Wireless Group at Thorpe, GB, 1943-1944: posting to unit, 12/1943; contrast in conditions at Thorpe in comparison with Slaithwaite.
