REEL 1 Background in Raynes Park and Tolworth, GB, 1920-1939: family; education; reaction to declaration of Second World War, 3/9/1939. Aspects of period as gunner with 391st Searchlight Bty, 48th (Hampshire) Searchlight Regt, Royal Artillery, 35th Anti-Aircraft Bde, 5th Anti-Aircraft Div in GB, 1940- 1941: call-up for military service, 1940; training with 391st Searchlight Bty; searchlight control work including success against German Air Force aircraft. Recollections of period as fitter with B Sqdn, 13/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own), 27th Armoured Bde in GB, 1941-1944: reasons for joining regiment at Skipton; opinion of Covenanter Tank; reaction in unit to joining 79th Armoured Div, 1943; re-equipping with M4 Sherman Tank and Valentine Tank Duplex Drive Amphibious Tanks; Duplex Drive training; maintenance of propellers; accidents during training.
