Aspects of period as private with York and Lancaster Regiment and 10th Bn Green Howards (Alexandra Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regt) in GB, 1940-1941: German Air Force attacks on Plymouth and London, 1940-1941; initial posting to York and Lancaster Regiment at Plymouth; joining 10th Bn Green Howards (Alexandra Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regt); coastal defence duties at Folkestone; state of equipment, 1940-1941; how he was placed on charge at Egg Buckland Keep; German Air Force attack on Folkestone; exercise to attack coastal guns at Folkestone. Aspects of training as private with Commando Basic Training Centre, Achnacarry, GB, 1942-1943: reasons for volunteering for commandos; how his crime sheet did not prove an obstacle to getting into the commandos; arrival at Achnacarry.
