REEL 1 Background in Brighton, GB, 1921-1939: family; education; employment. Recollections of period as clerk with Royal Artillery in GB, 1939-1942: joining Territorial Army, 1939; father's military service in First World War; anticipation of coming war; initial duties with 70th (Sussex) Searchlight Regt, Royal Artillery; outbreak of Second World War, 9/1939; memories of Lord Latham; move with Royal Artillery to RAF Biggin Hill; contact with shot down German Air Force aircrew; clerical work; German Air Force raid in which Woman's Auxiliary Air Force personnel killed, 30/8/1940; listening to fighter aircraft landing. REEL 2 Continues: memories of Battle of Britain, 7/1940-10/1940; narrow escape from German Air Force attacking aircraft; reaction to sight of pile of wrecked aircraft; relations between British Army and Royal Air Force personnel; move to London; attitude towards clerical work; posting to Dover; sight of Royal Marines firing gun at Dover.
