REEL 1 Background in Bermondsey, London, GB, 1915-1933: family. Aspects of training with Royal Norfolk Regiment in GB, 1933: reasons for enlistment, 7/2/1933; accommodation; opinion of rations; drill; weapons training. Aspects of period as private with 2nd Bn Royal Norfolk Regt in GB, 1933: posting to battalion at Raglan Barracks, Devonport; training. Aspects of period as private with 1st Bn Royal Norfolk Regt in India, 1933-1939: voyage aboard HMT Nevasa from GB to India; climate; barrack servants; move to Quetta, 1934; 'showing the flag' marches; move to Jhansi; move to North West Frontier, 1937; attacks on sangars; routine. REEL 2 Continues: wounding during piquet duty; problems with malaria; guard duties in Dehli.
