REEL 1 Background in GB, 1921-1939: story of how his father Captain Harry Schofield, won Victoria Cross at Battle of Colenso in South Africa during Boer War, 1899; reaction to declaration of Second World War, 3/9/1939. Aspects of training with Coldstream Guards in GB, 1940-1941: training at Guards Regimental Depot, Caterham and Guards Training Depot, Pirbright; guard duties with Holding Bn Coldstream Guards in London and at RAF Kenley. Aspects of period as officer with 4th (Motor) Bn Coldstream Guards, 6th Guards Armoured Bde, Guards Armoured Div and 6th Guards Tank Bde in GB, 1941-1943: joining battalion at Frome; initial problems with Churchill Tank; question of problems of guards personnel's height in tanks; training at Bellerby Moor. Aspects of period as officer with 4th (Armoured) Bn Coldstream Guards, 6th Guards Tank Bde in GB, 1943-1944: leave in London, 1943; loss of brother Sergeant Arthur Schofield serving with 272 Sqdn, RAF in Mediterranean, 22/5/1943; operating deception programme at Charing.
