REEL 1 Recollections of period as schoolchild in Lightwater, GB, 1939-1945: father's war work; rations; description of Morrison Shelter; German Air Force air raids; memories of German V1 Flying Bomb attacks, 1944; aircraft that crashed in Lightwater area; attitude of children towards crashed aircraft; German Air Force raids; war 'souvenirs' collected by children; story of two Canadian Army soldiers killed in accident on VE Day, 8/5/1945; fate of uncle serving in Middle East. Aspects of period as civilian in GB, 1945-1950: attitude towards education; employment by Silent Transport UK Ltd building milk floats. Recollections of period apprentice with Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough, GB, 1950-1955: applying for apprenticeship at Royal Aircraft Establishment. REEL 2 Continues: entry tests for Royal Aircraft Establishment, 9/1950; training received; destructive testing of aircraft; various aircraft worked on; learning aviation electronics; witnessing testing of aircraft; move into electrical engineering; working on early transistors; call-up for National Service to Royal Navy.
