Aspects of period as officer with 147th (Essex Yeomanry) Field Regt, Royal Artillery in GB, 1938-1944: reasons for joining Territorial Army, 1938; reaction to declaration of Second World War, 3/9/1939; initial duties in Harlow, 1939; pattern of movement, training and unit organisation in GB, 1940-1944. Recollections of operations commanding 431st Bty, 147th (Essex Yeomanry), Field Regt, Royal Artillery on Gold Beach in Normandy, France, D-Day, 6/6/1944: role as battery commander; wounding during landings on Gold Beach; firing at German Army soldier with his pistol; placing of wounded in first aid post in German pillbox; medical evacuation to Southampton, GB; proposed role of regiment during D-Day; crossing English Channel. REEL 2 Continues: personal equipment carried; character of landing; synchronising watches; German beach obstacles; German fire encountered; wounding in his leg; communications on beach; medical evacuation and treatment in GB.
