Recollections of period as seaman aboard HMS Amethyst in Far East, 1948-1949: background to joining sloop after service training aboard HMS Howe, 1946-1947; journey to Singapore, Federation of Malaya; his action station; patrols of Federation of Malaya, 1948; conditions in Nanking, China.
