Aspects of enlistment and training with Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) in GB, 1945-1947: reasons for volunteering for Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) in Edinburgh, 1945; basic training with 30th Bn Black Watch (Royal Highland Regt); officer cadet training at Royal Military College Sandhurst, Camberley, 1947-1948. Aspects of period as officer with D Coy, 1st Bn Black Watch (Royal Highland Regt) in Germany, 1948-1949: posting to unit at Duisberg; character of Operation Woodpecker; exercises with French Army troops; memories of Brigadier Bernard Fergusson; uniform worn; Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery's inspection of his company after route march; posting to Area Troops Berlin in Berlin, 1949; patrolling border; incident of officer confronting Soviet Army troops over border in Soviet Zone of Occupation, Germany; role as train commander between British Zone of Occupation, Germany and Berlin.
