Recollections of period as naval air mechanic with Fleet Air Arm, 1944-1950: call-up for service in Royal Navy, 1944; training as air mechanic, 1944-1945; duties at HMS Gadwell, Royal Naval Air Station Sydenham, Belfast; work with 811 Naval Air Sqdn, Fleet Air Arm, 1946; decision to continue in Fleet Air Arm; posting to HMS Heron, Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton. Recollections of period as naval air mechanic with Fleet Air Arm in Far East, 1950-1952: journey to Far East on HMS Ocean; arrival in Hong Kong and accommodation at RAF Kai Tak; duties repairing aircraft; transfer to Singapore, Federation of Malaya; duties; period on board HMS Unicorn; living conditions at Singapore, Federation of Malaya; details of engine repair/maintenance; visit to Kure and Hiroshima, Japan; description of RAF Kai Tak; pay; social life; employment on leaving Fleet Air Arm, 1953.
