REEL 1 Background in London, GB, 1910-1939: social circumstances and Jewish family origins; education; learning engraving trade prior to securing employment as tailor, 1924; effects of First World War, 1914-1919, including use of Oxford Circus Underground Station as air raid shelter and rationing; work as tailor's shop boy; training and employment as tailor's cutter in Saville Row REEL 2 Continues: further details training and work as Saville Row tailor's cutter in Saville Row; sports activities; questions of approach of war and anti-Semitism. Recollections of period as fireman with Auxiliary Fire Service at Auxiliary Fire Service Shaftesbury Avenue Fire Station, London, GB, 9/1939-9/1940: recruitment; initial location sent to; equipment and use of taxi cab with trailer pump; question of receiving minimal training; relations with London Fire Brigade; move to Soho Substation at Jackson's Garage Station and use of basement as air raid shelter; organisation of Auxiliary Fire Service; uniform worn; question of adequacy of training.
