Recollections of enlistment and training with Royal Marines in GB, 1940-1943: reasons for enlistment, 1940; training with MO40 Squad at Chatham; officer training at Lympstone; training with 1 Machine Gun Coy at Browndown and Tenby; opinion of Vickers Machine Gun; course at Craven Arms and Aldershot; opinion of catering course at Aldershot; training with landing craft at Inverary; news of Royal Marine commitment to commandos; move to Holding Commando at Wrexham; composition of 3rd Commando Bde. Voyage from GB to Bombay, India aboard Moloja, 1/1944. Recollections of operations as officer with Support Troop, 44 Commando in Arakan, 1944: background to join troop; voyage from Bombay to Cox's Bazar. REEL 2 Continues: move to River Naf; plans for operation at Alethangyaw; landing by LCPs at Alethangyaw; degree of Japanese opposition; problems of water supply; role of West African troops; handling of wounded marine; return from raid on Alathangyaw; second operation north of Alathangyaw; character of US K-rations; move to Silchar; leeches; reasons for demand for condoms; death of marine struck by lighting at Silchar.
