REEL 1 Background in India and GB, 1922-1939: family; education at Haig School, Aldershot; employment. Aspects of period as officer with 7th Bn, Worcestershire Regt in GB, 1937-1940: reasons for joining Territorial Army in Worcester, 1937-1938; prevention of his serving in France, 1939; opinion of clerical work with 8th Bn Worcestershire Regt in GB, 1939-1940; background to applying to join British Indian Army, 1940. Recollections of operations as officer with 5/10th Baluch Regt in India, 1941-1944: voyage from GB to India, late 1940; commissioning in Bangalore and joining unit at Landi Kotal, 1941; quality of Indian officers; composition of battalion; duties; taking first parade inspection. REEL 2 Continues: operations on North West Frontier; disarming of Pathans; relations with commanding officer; sniping on North West Frontier; attitude of troops towards Afridis; joining 64th Indian Infantry Bde, 19th Indian Infantry Div; problems teaching his troops to drive; character of jungle training in south India, 1943; reaction of officers and men to jungle training; role as chief instructor at Battle School, Chinglepet, near Madras.
