Aspects of period as seaman with French Merchant Marine, 1940: joining French Merchant Marine, 8/5/1940; service aboard SS Champlain and SS Normandie in North Atlantic, 5/1940-8/1940; return across North Atlantic to join Free French Naval Forces in GB, 9/1940. Recollection of operations as mechanic-quartermaster aboard submarine chasers CH-10 Bayonne and CH-12 Benodet, Free French Naval Forces in English Channel, 10/1940-5/1945: joining CH-10 Bayonne at Portsmouth, GB, 10/1940; duties on board ship, 1940-1942; role of ship during Operation Jubilee, the raid on Dieppe, France, 19/8/1942; basing of ship at Cowes, Isle of Wight, GB; German Air Force raid on Cowes, Isle of Wight, 5/5/1942; transfer to CH-12 Benodet, 4/1943; role of CH-12 Benodet on D-Day 6/6/1944; basing in Brest, France, early 1945; question of not being allowed to stay in GB after demobilisation, 11/1945.
