REEL 1 Background in Market Bosworth and Leicester, GB, 1924-1942: family; education; role as messenger with Air Raid Precautions and Civil Defence Service in Leicester, 1939-1942. Aspects of enlistment and training with Royal Marines in GB, 1942-1944: enlistment in Royal Marines, 11/1942; nature of basic training in Royal Marines Depot, Lympstone, winter 1942-1943; Combined Operations training in Portsmouth, 1943. Aspects of period as marine aboard Landing Craft (Flak) 32 in GB coastal waters, 5/1944-6/1944: description of craft and it's anti-aircraft role; role as marine signaller; initial reaction to sight of landing craft; seasickness; training in Solent and Isle of Wight areas; preparations for Operation Neptune, 5/1944-6/1944.
