REEL 1 Background in London, GB, 1914-1936: family; education; employment. Recollections of period as footman at German Embassy in London, GB, 1936-1939: employment as servant with embassy from 1936; staffs' fear of Ambassador Joachim von Ribbentrop; story of Joachim von Ribbentrop's anger over being early on visit to Buckingham Palace; Christmas present received from Joachim von Ribbentrop; promotion to footman; large sum of money given to him by Frau Annelies Ribbentrop to pay off bills; story of buying flowers for reception; circumstances of his call-up for military service, 8/1939; accommodation and living conditions in German Embassy; relations with German Embassy staff; visits to Germany as part of Ambassador Joachim von Ribbentrop's staff. REEL 2 Continues: standard of living of Germans and economy measures they employed; degree of awareness of character of Nazi regime; leaving embassy, 1939; roles of valet and footman; disadvantages of job.
