REEL 1 Background in Trautenau, Czechoslovakia, 1919-1939: family; father's business history in toy manufacture; education; reasons for leaving Sudetenland, 1938; lack of discrimination against Jews in Bohemia. Aspects of emigration from Czechoslovakia to Palestine, 1939-1940: leaving Nazis occupied Czechoslovakia, 1/11/1939; delays during river voyage down River Danube; interception of his ship Sakaria by Royal Navy in Mediterranean; question of why Germans allowed Jews to leave Czechoslovakia, 1939; role of Herr Mandler in organising exit of Jews from Czechoslovakia; treatment received aboard Sakaria by British troops, 1940; interment at Sarafand, Palestine. Aspects of period as driver with Royal Army Service Corps in Palestine, North Africa and Greece, 1940-1941: reasons why he could not join Czechoslovak Army. REEL 2 Continues: joining No 916 Company, Royal Army Service Corps as driver; service in Tobruk, Libya, winter 1940-1941; capture at Kalamata, Greece, 4/1941.
