REEL 1 Background in Kingston upon Hull, GB, 1926-1939: family; education; tour of coastal defences at Spurn Head, 1938. Recollections of period as schoolchild and messenger with Air Raid Precautions in Kingston upon Hull, GB, 1939-1944: issue of gas mask, 9/1939; brief evacuation from Kingston upon Hull to Swine; contracting head lice and return to family home; reaction to contracting head lice; start of German Air Force bombing; sight of aerial fighting over RAF Leconfield, summer 1940; his strafing by German Air Force bomber near barrage balloon site; flooding of wooden shelters and their replacement with Anderson Shelters; danger of asphyxiation in Anderson Shelter and their subsequent modification; 'Dig for Victory' campaign and supplementing rations. REEL 2 Continues: stick of bombs which fell in Holderness Drain; presence of mobile anti-aircraft Bofors Guns in area; incident of his being blown through air by bomb blast; sight of parachute mines; incident when Oil Bomb landed; disposal of cordite from fuses; duties as Air Raid Precautions messenger; use of gas decontamination centres as clearing centres for bombed out civilians; story of premonition of bombing of grandmother's house; war work in Kingston upon Hull; membership of Air Training Corps and flights from RAF Leconfield, 1943; civilian employment; bombing of Chapman Street, 1941.
