Italian civilian internee in Lingfield Racecourse Internment Camp, Lingfield and Warth Mills Internment Camp, Bury in GB, 6/1940; survivor of sinking of SS Arandora Star off Ireland in North Atlantic, 2/7/1940; internee aboard HMT Dunera during voyage from GB to Australia, 7/1940-9/1940; internee in No 1 Internment Camp, Tatura and No 9 Internment Camp, Loveday, Australia, 9/1940-6/1944

REEL 1 Background in Italy and GB, 1918-1940: family; education; employment. Recollections of period as internee in Lingfield Racecourse Internment Camp, Lingfield and Warth Mills Internment Camp, Bury, GB, 6/1940: arrest prior to internment, London, 6/1940; removal to Lingfield Racecourse Internment Camp via the Oratory School in Brompton, London; conditions in Warth Mills Internment Camp, Bury; people he already knew in camp. Recollections of sinking of SS Arandora Star off Ireland in North Atlantic, 2/7/1940: embarkation at Liverpool, 30/6/1940; torpedoing of ship by German submarine U-47, 2/7/1940; his period in the sea. REEL 2 Continues: conditions on raft; rescue by Canadian destroyer HMCS St Laurent; condition he was in on rescue; confusion on board ship after torpedoing; treatment of survivors by Canadian seamen aboard HMCS St Laurent; prior recollection of escape attempt in London, 6/1940; his return to Liverpool after sinking. Recollections of voyage as internee aboard HMT Dunera from GB to Australia, 10/7/1940-6/9/1940: treatment of internees by British guards; reaction to nearby exploding torpedo in Irish Sea; presence of German Jewish internees on board; story relating to torpedo scare; dysentery on board; bad sanitary conditions on board; orders of guards to throw luggage overboard.
