REEL 1 Aspects of enlistment and training with Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in GB, 1939-1940: joining Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, 1939; training at RAF Prestwick and RAF Jurby, 1939-1940. Aspects of operations as navigator with 78 Sqdn, No 4 Group, Bomber Command, RAF in GB, 8/1940-8/1941: joining squadron, 8/1940; posting to RAF Dishforth; operations with Armstrong Whitworth Whitley on Germany, 8/1940-8/1941; construction of dummy targets at Hamburg, Germany; bomb loads carried by Armstrong Whitworth Whitley; navigation problems in Armstrong Whitworth Whitley; question of bombing accuracy, 1940-1941. Aspects of period as as station navigator to RAF Middleton St George, GB, 9/1941-2/1942: posting to station; cutters attached to aircraft wings to cut balloons wires in balloon barrage at Middlesbrough.
