REEL 1 Aspects of period as member of Local Defence Volunteers and Home Guard in West Bromwich, GB, 1940-1941: character of unit; lack of equipment; German Air Force attacks on West Bromwich area; use of naval gun for anti-aircraft defence; use of Anderson Shelter. Aspects of period as private with Imperial Forces Workshop in Natal, South Africa, 1943: role building camps for Italian prisoners of war; memories of 'Lady in White' singing to troops in transit at Durban; reception for troops in South Africa. Aspect of period as private with 2nd Bn Leicestershire Regt, 16th Infantry Bde, 3rd Indian Infantry Div in India, 10/1943-2/1944: volunteering for Chindits, 9/1943; allocation to unit, 10/1943; nature of training in Central Provinces; morale of Chindits. REEL 2 Continues: Major-General Orde Wingate's visit to unit.
