British officer served with Transjordan Frontier Force in French Syria, 6/1941-7/1941; commanded C Sqdn, 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars, 4th Armoured Bde in North Africa, 1942; served as staff officer with General Headquarters, Cairo, Egypt, 1942-1943; commanded 4th Parachute Bde, 1st Airborne Div in Italy, 9/1943 and during Operation Market Garden in Netherlands, 9/1944

REEL 1 Recollections of operations as officer with Transjordan Frontier Force in French Syria, 6/1941-7/1941: background to appointment to Transjordan Frontier Force as staff officer, 1939; reasons for British occupation of French Syria, 6/1941; attack on Vichy French at Izraa near Damascus; conversation with Vichy French officer after the battle whilst with control commission; reasons why campaign had a French civil war aspect. Aspects of operations commanding C Sqdn, 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars, 4th Armoured Bde in North Africa, 1942: fighting at Position Blenheim, near Bir Hakeim, Libya, 27/5/1942 including wounding; role laying mines at Alam Halfa, Egypt; visit from General Brian Horrocks. REEL 2 Continues: Aspects of period as staff officer with General Headquarters, Cairo, Egypt, 1942-1943: role of light raiding forces; problems of running light raiding forces by committee; background to his appointment and duties supervising light raiding forces; his cultivation of Vladamir 'Popski' Peniakoff and how name Popski's Private Army was coined; roles of Long Range Desert Group and Special Air Service; clash between David Stirling and General Bernard Montgomery over Special Air Service recruitment; question of need for parachute brigade.
