REEL 1 Aspects of operations as observer with HMS Glorious in Indian Ocean, 1939: reaction to start of training as observer, 1937; hunt for German cruiser Admiral Graf Spee, 9/1939-12/1939; duties aboard; nature of ward room and brush with commander. Aspects of period as observer with 819 Naval Air Sqdn, Fleet Air Arm in GB, 1940: joining squadron at HMS Peregrine, Royal Naval Air Station Ford, 1/1940; flying in Fairey Swordfish; pracitising bombing at RAF West Freugh. Aspects of operations with 815 Naval Air Sqdn, Fleet Air Arm in GB, 1940: transfer to unit at RAF Bircham Newton; crash during training to attack German fleet at Wilhelmshaven, Germany; investigating false report of German aircraft carrier off coast of Netherlands; mine laying in North Sea off Frisian Islands, Netherlands; operations during Dunkirk Evacuation, 5/1940-6/1940; embarkation aboard HMS Illustrious, 6/1940. REEL 2 Continues: Recollections of operations as observer with 815 Naval Air Sqdn, Fleet Air Arm aboard HMS Illustrious in Mediterranean, 8/1940-11/1940 including Battle of Taranto, Italy, 11/11/1940-12/11/1940: problems of fighters landing on during working up in Bermuda; type of operations against coastal harbours in North Africa; plan for attack on Italian Fleet at Taranto, Italy, 11/1940; the attack on Italian Fleet at Taranto, 11/11/1940-12/11/1940; crash into water during attack on Conte di Cavour in Taranto Harbour and capture by Italians, 12/11/1940; treatment on capture.
