Content description

REEL 1 Aspects of enlistment and training with Women's Royal Naval Service in GB, 1941-1942: joining Women's Royal Naval Service, 1941; initial training at Mill Hill. Aspects of period as officer with Women's Royal Naval Service at Government Code and Cypher School, Stanmore in GB, 1942-1943: posting to Stanmore, 1942; nature of decoding work; decoding machines; leaving Stanmore, mid 1943. Aspects of period as officer with Women's Royal Naval Service at Government Code and Cypher School, Bletchley Park in GB, 1943: two month training period at Bletchley Park, mid 1943. REEL 2 Continues: training on Japanese codes; opinion of eccentricity of cryptanalysts. Aspects of voyage aboard HMT Strathmore from GB to Ceylon, 1943: embarkation at Liverpool; attack on convoy by Axis torpedo bombers in Mediterranean; voyage to Bombay, India and arrival, 6/11/1943; cockroach infested voyage from Bombay, India to Colombo, Ceylon.
