British officer served as observer with 836 Sqdn, Naval Air Sqdn, Fleet Air Arm in Northern Ireland, 1944; served with 825 Naval Air Sqdn, Fleet Air Arm aboard HMS Vindex and HMS Campania in North Atlantic and Arctic, 1944-1945

REEL 1 Background in Ystalyfera, GB, 1922-1940: family; education. Aspects of enlistment and training with Fleet Air Arm in GB and Canada, 1941-1943: background to enlistment, 9/1941; selection interview; pattern of training; flying training; failure on pilots course; relations with Canadian civilians; transfer to observer training, 1942; etiquette course at Royal Naval College, Greenwich, 9/1943; crewing up procedure, late 1943. Aspects of operations as observer with 836 Naval Air Sqdn, Fleet Air Arm in Northern Ireland, 1944: description of Merchant Aircraft Carrier (MAC); character of HMS Shrike, Royal Naval Air Station Maydown; relations with Irish civilians; radar course, early 1944. REEL 2 Continues: Recollections of operations as observer with 825 Naval Air Sqdn, Fleet Air Arm aboard HMS Vindex and HMS Campania in North Atlantic and Arctic, 5/1944-5/1945: co-operation with Captain Frederic Walker's 2nd Escort Group in North Atlantic; an air sea rescue incident; abortive attack on German submarine during Arctic convoy, 23/8/1944; flying clothing worn in Fairey Swordfish in Arctic; narrow escape whilst on patrol in Arctic, 22/8/1944.
