Content description

REEL 1 Aspects of period as chaplain with Royal Army Chaplains' Department in GB, North Africa and Italy, 1939-1945: background to becoming chaplain in Royal Warwickshire Regt in GB, 1939; duties with British Army in peacetime; opinion of work of chaplains during Second World War; summary of experiences with 1st Independent Infantry Bde (Guards) including landings in North Africa and Italian Campaign. Recollections of period as chaplain with Royal Army Chaplains' Department attached to 3rd Bn Welsh Guards, 1st Independent Infantry Bde (Guards) in Austria, 5/1945-6/1945: move with battalion into Austria, 5/1945: description of Yugoslav refugees and living conditions in Rosegg area; reaction to deceiving refugees about being sent to Italy; question of Josip Tito posing threat to Austria; description of Yugoslav refugees being loaded onto trucks.
