REEL 1 Recollections of operations as seaman aboard HMS Escort, 12th Destroyer Flotilla in North Sea, Norway and Mediterranean, 9/1939-7/1940 including sinking, 11/7/1940: joining Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, 1938; joining ship, 9/1939; combating seasickness; character of ship; incident with captain, Lieutenant Commander John Bostock over leave; sinking of submarine U-63 in North Sea, 25/2/1940; his action station supplying shells to Y Turret; orders to move to Norway in poor weather, 4/1940; plans to land shore party at Narvik, Norway; under German Air Force dive-bombing attack at Narvik, Norway; towing HMS Eclipse back to GB; action against French Fleet at Mers-el-Kebir, French Algeria, 3/7/1940; torpedoing ship by Italian submarine, Guglielmo Marconi, 8/7/1940. REEL 2 Continues: rescue of crew and details of sinking whilst in tow from HMS Forester, 11/7/1940. Recollections of operations as seaman aboard HMS Jasmine in North Atlantic and Indian Ocean, 6/1941-12/1942: standing by ship during German Air Force attacks, Gourock, GB, 3/1941; character of corvette; convoys to Gibraltar; heavy losses during Convoy HG 73, 9/1941; German intelligence work; method of claiming for sinking submarine; picking up Merchant Navy survivors from SS Scottish Chief sunk by German submarine U-177 in Indian Ocean, 19/11/1942; role of ship during invasion of French Madagascar, 5/1942; rescue of survivors of Vichy French submarine Bévéziers, 5/5/1942; humorous incidents on board.
