REEL 1 Aspects of period with Special Operations Executive in South Africa and French Madagascar, 1942; invitation to join Special Operations Executive mission to Madagascar, 1942; recruitment interviews; joining Todd Mission in South Africa; objectives of mission in Madagascar; success of mission; abortive plan to join Chetnik forces in Yugoslavia. Recollections of operations commanding Mission Etoile, Special Air Service in Besançon area of France, 6/1944-9/1944: background to transfer to mission from No 10 Commando; mission personnel; arrival in Pontarlier area; impressions of reception committee; driving into ambush; delivery of wounded through American lines. REEL 2 Continues: need for diplomatic handling of Communist Resistance; reasons for strength of Communists in local French Resistance; tensions between French Force of the Interior (FFI) and Francs-Tireurs et Partisans (FTP); story illustrating ease of occurrence of accidents in special service work; memories of George Millar; sight of mass parachute drop of supplies; condition of French Resistance in Pontarlier; strength of Germans forces in area; question of collaboration and presence of Milice; money delivered to Nancy; arrival in Paris soon after liberation, 9/1944; decorations received.
