German OKW propaganda report, last report from High Command, praise for German troops in honourable capitulation 5/1945
In East Prussia the German Army bravely defended the Weichsel estuary. Commander-in-Chief General von Saucken was awarded Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds. General praise for German troops - those who fought for months in Poland, refusing to surrender; those defending the Atlantic coast; those in Norway. All have preserved the honour of the German soldier. Since midnight there has been a ceasefire on all fronts, so that the war, which has lasted nearly six years, is over. Germany has won great victories and has suffered terrible defeats. However her final capitulation has been honourable.
