REEL 1 Aspects of enlistment and training with 87th (1st West Lancashire) Field Ambulance in GB, 8/1945-3/1915: recruitment as stretcher-bearer at Tramway Road Recruiting Office, Liverpool, 8/1914; training at Croxteth Park, Sevenoaks, Canterbury and Rugby, 8/1914-3/1915 including reaction to military lifestyle and discipline, basic and medical training, movements and billets, relations with NCOs and officers and rations. Aspects of voyage aboard HMT Dongola from GB to Imbros Island, Greece, 3/1915: question of destination; conditions on board; route; period at Mudros Harbour, Lemnos Island, Greece. Recollections of landing and operations as stretcher-bearer with 87th Field Ambulance, 29th Div on X Beach, Cape Helles, Gallipoli, Turkey, 25/4/1915-26/4/1915: barge landing under shrapnel fire; lack of barges to ferry casualties to hospital ship; situation. REEL 2 Continues: situation; trips to bring wounded back to beach at night; inadequate medical provision for wounded on beach exacerbated by cold; move to Gully Beach. Aspects of operations as stretcher-bearer with 87th Field Ambulance, 29th Div at Gully Ravine, Gallipoli, Turkey, 4/1915-8/1915: walking through Krithia with stretcher team, 26/4/1915; terrain; carrying casualties from advanced post in Gully Ravine to beach hospital; water supply; nature of first aid given at advanced post; stretcher teams; later use of ambulances in Gully Ravine; story of NCO driven insane; conditions of service in beach area. REEL 3 Continues: conditions of service in beach area; personal morale. Aspects of operations as stretcher-bearer with 87th Field Ambulance, 29th Div at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli, Turkey, 8/1915-9/1915: situation; crossing Salt Lake to establish post on Chocolate Hill; evacuation with dysentery and typhoid; later membership of Gallipoli Association.
