REEL 1 Background in Cambridge, GB, 1908-1924: family; education; reasons for enlistment in Royal Navy, 1924. Aspects of period as wireless operator with Royal Navy in GB coastal waters, 1924-1938: duties as wireless operator; memories of Invergordon Mutiny, 15/9/1931-16/9/1931; leaving Royal Navy, 1938. Aspects of operations as telegraphist aboard submarine HMS Starfish, 2nd Submarine Flotilla in GB coastal waters and North Sea, 1939-1940: background to joining ship from reserve, 12/1939; characteristics of S class submarines and living conditions on board; patrolling off Heligoland in North Sea; use of Asdic.
