REEL 1 Recollections of period as officer with 1st Bn Manchester Regiment British Troops in Egypt in Egypt, 1935-1938: pattern of career prior to posting to Egypt; family separations caused by posting; description of and suitability of khaki drill under various conditions; voyage aboard troopship HMT Dorsetshire from GB to Port Said, Egypt; move to Moascar Camp; description of camp; Egyptian thieves; sporting facilities; acclimatisation and night training; daily routine; officer and other ranks relations; contact with neighbouring battalions; messing arrangements. REEL 2 Continues: posting to Mersa Matruh, 1935; reorganisation as motorised battalion with 19th Lifting Company, Army Service Corps as part of Mobile Desert Force; assessment of officers' Austin cars and 15 cwt trucks; modification of truck's air filter; use of sun compass in desert; preparation of forward petrol dumps; visits to frontier posts; map making; problems with dust in desert; food; communications; sand storms; precautions against Italian armoured attacks; joint exercises with Mobile Desert Force.
