REEL 1 Aspects of period as nurse Australian Army Nursing Service attached to 2/13th Australian General Hospital, Australian Army Medical Corps in Malaya and during sinking of HMS Vyner Brooke in the Bangka Strait, Java Sea, Dutch East Indies, 9/1941-2/1942: interviewer reads extract relating to Bangka Island Massacre from Australian official history; nursing training and service prior to call-up; move to Malaya, 9/1941; embarkation aboard HMS Vyner Brooke, 12/2/1942; bombing of HMS Vyner Brooke by Japanese aircraft and abandoning ship, 14/2/1942; period in sea after sinking of HMS Vyner Brooke; swimming to Bangka Island; aid from villagers; capture by Japanese. Aspects of period as prisoner of war in Muntok Jail Camp, Palembang Camp, Muntok Women's Camp and Loeboek Linggau Camp, Sumatra, Dutch East Indies, 3/1942-8/1945: move to Muntok Jail Camp; hearing of Bangka Island Massacre from Sister Vivian Bullwinkel; move to Palembang Camp, 4/1942; conditions in Loeboek Linggau Camp; return to Australia via Singapore, Malaya, 9/1945; question of treatment received from Japanese.
