REEL 1 Recollections of period as officer with 12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's) in GB and Egypt, 1926-1929: background to enlistment in regiment; question of cavalry's future; unit training, role and organisation; standard of other ranks; effect of trench warfare in First World War on cavalry's role; move to Egypt, 12/1926; horse training programme. Recollections of period as officer during mechanisation of 12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's) in Egypt and GB, 1927- 1930: mechanisation circumstances leading up to mechanisation of unit and reaction to prospect, 1927; training with 3rd Armoured Car Coy, Royal Tank Corps; reaction of senior officers to mechanisation. REEL 2 Continues: attending officers' training course at Bovington Camp, 1928; maintenance, driving and gunnery course at Royal Tank Corps Depot Bovington and Royal Tank Corps Gunnery School, Lulworth, 1928; difficulties of firing on the move; story of introduction of wireless communications into unit; use of despatch riders.
