REEL 1 Aspects of enlistment and training with 1st Bn Green Howards in GB, 1933-1936: reasons for enlistment in Green Howards, 1933; recruit training at Green Howards Depot at Richmond Barracks, Richmond; posting to battalion for training at Portland; training on Salisbury Plain; reaction to posting to India. Aspects of voyage aboard HMT Nevasa from GB to India, 1936: guard duty; problem of seasickness; recreational activities on board. Recollections of period as NCO with 2nd Bn Green Howards in India, 1936-1939: description of troop train; issue booklet on service in India; barrack servants; care of kit; character of barrack rooms and use of mosquito nets. REEL 2 Continues: initial encounter with barrack servant; duties, skills and pay of barrack servants; recreational activities at Meerut; training for service on North West Frontier; journey to North West Frontier; arrival at Ghariom Camp; character of Ghariom Camp; sniping of officer's mess; guard duty outside camp; method of picketing hillsides to allow progress of column; wounding of unit member by 'dum dum' bullets; medical treatment available on North West Frontier; guard duty outside Razmak Camp.
