REEL 1 Background in GB, 1911-1930: family; education. Aspects of enlistment and training with Royal Tank Corps in GB, 1931-1932: growing interest in corps during cadetship at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, 1930; driving and maintenance course at Royal Tank Corps Depot, Bovington, 1931; reasons for attending mechanical course at Royal College of Military Science, Woolwich; standard of training; lack of tactical training. Recollections of period as officer with 3rd Bn Royal Tank Corps in GB, 1932-1936: posting to unit at Lydd Camp, 1934; section officer duties; character of training programme; quality of other ranks; performance of Carden Loyd Carrier and Light Tank Mk III. REEL 2 Continues: reasons for corps esprit de corps; character of tactical exercises without troops; exercises with cavalry and infantry; cavalry's attitude towards mechanisation; wireless equipment; importance of wireless communications to tank units; attending exercises on Salisbury Plain, 1932-1934; annual gunnery practice at Lulworth; emphasis on firing on the move; character of 1932 exercises.
