American Cold War period 5-ton truck for transporting an Honest John rocket and its short launch rail.
The M386 International Harvester truck was a variant of the 'Reo' series of trucks widely used by the US Army in the post war period.
The M386 was specifically designed to be the launch truck for the Honest John battlefield nuclear missile. This was the first battlefield nuclear missile operated by the British Army, in service from 1959 - 1976.
This particular truck served with 21 Battery, 50 Missile Regiment Royal Artillery, Menden, West Germany in the 1960s and 1970s (see IWM photo BL 74 / 113 / 2 / 5 )
