abstract composition comprised of found objects, including a newspaper image of the Milltown Cemetery attack in Northern Ireland in 1988
A collage piece that was made in my London studio in 1988.
It directly relates to the conflict in Ireland between Catholic and Protestant.
I used the four horses that so famously stand on the loggia of Venice's Basilica of St. Mark's - the 'triumphal quadriga' - as a notable Catholic symbol.
At centre left is a multiple print scrap run-off that I'd used when testing for colour-viscosity etchings before doing the actual print. It makes no sense: its disorder is as senseless as the conflict itself and the death of this young man.
The paralell dark blue lines, whose regularity I use to contrast this disorder, are gleaned from some commercial wrapping.
The top left element is sandpaper, an ultimately abrasive surface but over which I have drawn and painted.
