text 2: COAL is what you make it!
The use of coal as a source of energy is a very old story, but new and brilliant chapters are being added by scientific research which has
found in coal a chemical treasure house. The number of different chemicals that can be obtained from tar alone has been calculated at over
2,000 and the chemist continues to find new possibilities. This simplified chart traces some of the ramifications of the family tree
growing from coal and shows some of the many uses of coal products in industry and in our daily life.
