EL PORTO DE LONDRES
La Junta del Puerto de Londres es un organismo independiente del control del Gobierno y del Municipio. De sus miembros, unos son designados
por departamentos gubernamentales y corporaciones públicas, y los demás son elegidos por los navieros, comerciantes y otros usuarios del
puerto. Los derechos y gravámenes impuestos por la Junta tienen por objeto la obtención de ingresos suficientes para cubrir los gastos de
conservación y funcionamiento, y el page de intereses fijos. La finalidad perseguida por la Junta es suministrar el mejor servicio por el
menor coste a todos cuantos utilizan el puerto. El prestigio de que mundialmente goza ese organismo por la eficacia de su gestión no ha
sido superado por ninguna otra autoridad portuaria. La ilustración presenta un barco anclado junto al muelle de Hay, y, al fondo, los

[The Custom House and Port of London Authoroty building. The Port of London. The 'P.L.A.' - the Port of London Authority - is a self-
governing and non-subsidised Public Utility Service. The Board is composed of appointed representatives of Government Departments and
Public Bodies, and elected representatives of Shipowners, Merchants and other users of the Port. The Port Authority's rates and charges are
designed to produce revenue sufficient to cover operating costs and fixed interest charges. The aim of the Authority is to provide the best
service at the lowest cost for all users of the Port. The Authority has a world-wide reputation second to none for efficiency. This picture
shows a ship at Hay's Wharf, and, in the background, the Custom House with the Port of London Authority building beyond.]
