THE WAR TOLD FOR YOU IN PICTURES
THESE LAST SEVEN MONTHS HAVE GIVEN THE BRITISH ARMY, NAVY AND AIR FORCE AN OPPORTUNITY TO INCREASE THEIR STRENGTH. FULL USE HAS BEEN MADE
OF IT. THE VARIED ARMS ARE ILLUSTRATED ON THIS SHEET.
Might meets Might. H.M.S. Hood and H.M.S. Repulse, two of the largest warships in the Royal Navy, going about their business of keeping the
sea clear for peaceful shipping.
Back from Germany. A twin-engined British Blenheim fighter-bomber flying home after a look at Nazi sea plane bases.
Britain's Steel Walls. In former days ships provided England with wooden walls; to-day tanks provide steel walls. These tanks have been
made in Canada.
Disguised. This German ship, the 'Leander,' changed her name to 'Metallist' to escape the British Navy. But she failed. The picture shows
her cargo being unloaded at a British port.
Sailors as Airmen. These sailors, training with the R.A.F., will join the Fleet Air Arm when they are qualified.
The Navy Rescued Them. H.M.S. Cossack, the destroyer that rescued the 300 British prisoners from the German 'hell ship,' Altmark, arriving
at Leith with the men she rescued.
Thumbs Up! The pilot of a British Coastal Command aircraft indicates that all is ready for an attack on a German submarine.
Men and Machine. Air observers being trained for the R.A.F. entering a British sky giant at a training school.
Cleaning the Seas. As the Germans sow mines in Allied waters these little mine-sweepers clean them up so that merchant ships can sail in
safety.
Shells and More Shells. A busy corner of an Ordnance Factory in England.
Fighting in the Snow. A British soldier on the Western Front dressed in white during the recent severe winter.
French President with British Army. M. Le Brun, President of France, talking with Lord Gort, the British Commander-in-Chief.
To fight U-boats. These tubes, being tested in a British factory, are the 'guns' that throw depth charges to destroy German U-boats.
Allies Fly Side by Side. British and French airmen discussing tactics at an aerodrome in France.
