[The Military Service Act 1916 refers to unmarried men who were 18 years old or over on August 15, 1915 and who shall be not yet be 41
years old on March 2nd 1916. Considered enlisted for the duration of the war all men (neither exempt nor excused) between the two ages
above who, on November 2nd 1915 were unmarried or widowers with no children in their charge. They are to be placed in reserve until such
time as their division be called up. Men exempt: Soldiers including land owners enlisted for foreign service; Men serving in the Navy or
Sailors; Men rleased form the Army of the Navy disabled or ill, or Men who have served their time; Men refudes by the Army since August
14th 1915; Clerics, Priests and Ministers of the Gospel; Visitors from the Colonies. Men who may be excused by the local tribunal: Men who
render greater service to the nation in their present occupation; Men whom military service would cause severe hardship because of their
exceptional economic or commercial obligations or owing to exceptional family circumstances; Men who are ill or subject to ill-health; Men
who are conscientiously opposed to fighting. If the Tribunal judges fit, such men as follow may be excused (a) from combat service only
(not from combat-free service), or (b) excused on condition that they are involved in work of national importance. Until March 2nd, men
may appeal to the Local Tribunal for an exemption licence. There is a right to appeal. Those who appeal shall not be called up until their
case has been decided. Exemption Licences may be final, conditional or temporary. Such Licences may be renewed; they may vary or be
revoked. Men shall continue to enjoy their National Rights until called up, and they are answerable to the National Courts only. Do not
delat until March 2nd. Volunteer now. For further details of the Act, ask for Page No. 64 or 66 in the Post Office, or the Police Station,
or the nearest Enlistment Office.]
