Paris, grâce à eux a échappé à l'étreinte de l'ennemi. Paris, n'a pas oublié et n'oubliera pas! Les Fêtes de Nöel et du Jour de l'An ont été déjà en 1914 l'occasion d'une splendide et unanime manifestation de solidarité et de gratitude. Il faut qu'en 1915 la solennité soit plus belle encore et, si possible, plus générale. Il faut que la pensée et le sourire de Paris rayonnent au delà des tranchées et réchauffent, en même temps que les soldats de la ligne de feu, les prisonniers de guerre appartenant à des familles nécessiteuses. Les uns et les autres sont nos Parents, nos Frères, nos Fils, nos Amis, notre Chair, notre Sang. C'est pénétrés de ces sentiments, que les Maires de Paris et les Maires adjoints, le Comité National d'Aide et de Prévoyance en faveur des soldats, ont décidé, avec le concours du journal LE MATIN, de renouveler l'œuvre collective du Nöel et des Etrennes de Paris. Plus de trois cent mille de nos soldats ont bénéficié, l'an dernier, de la générosité de la population parisienne. Il faut que cette année COMBATTANTS et PRISONNIERS reçoivent plus et mieux. Nul doute que l'élan enthousiaste ne se prononce partout avec plus d'ardeur et que le Commerce de Paris tout entier n'ait à cœur de s'associer à cette œuvre patriotique et d'en assurer le succès. Du plus riche au plus humble tous nos concitoyens voudront offrir leur présent, grandiose ou modeste. Aux largesses alimentaires s'ajouteront, ces mille riens de Paris où s'épanouit la fantaisie charmante de nos ouvriers, si justement comparable à l'habileté sereine des artistes de la tranchée. Sortis de toutes les bourses, récoltés dans les Magasins, développés par les appels du MATIN, centralisés dans les MAIRES, expédiés par les soins vigilants du Comité National d'Aide et de Prévoyance en faveur des soldats, le NOEL et les ETRENNES de PARIS s'achemineront sûrement vers la ligne de combat, d'Occident en Orient et jusque dans les lointaines forteresses où nos prisonniers songent tristement aux douceurs du foyer et iront réjouir les âmes juvéniles et sublimes de nos héros. En attendant le GRAND NOËL de la délivrance, le NOËL de 1915 apparaîtra à tous nos soldats comme l'étoile de joie et d'espoir et leur portera le témoignage radieux de notre confiance, de notre admiration et de notre amour. [The Mayors of the twenty Arrondissements are aware that if there is a Paris that thinks and acts, that hopes and waits, it is to our brave soldiers that it is due. Paris, thanks to them, has escaped the embrace of the enemy. Paris has not forgotten and will not forget! The Christmas and New Year celebrations were already in 1914 the occasion of a splendid and unanimous demonstration of solidarity and gratitude. In 1915 the solemn occasion must be even finer, and, if possible, more general. The idea and smile of Paris must radiate beyond the trenches and warm, at the same time as the soldiers in the line of fire, the prisoners of war coming from needy families. Both are our relations, our brothers, our sons, our friends, our flesh, our blood. Imbued with these feelings, the mayors of Paris and the deputy mayors, the National Aid and Providence Committee in support of soldiers, have decided, with the help of the newspaper Le Matin, to relaunch the collective charity for Christmas and Gifts of Paris. More than 300,000 of our soldiers benefited last year from the generosity of the people of Paris. This year combatants and prisoners must receive more and better. There is no doubt that there will be an enthusiastic and more ardent response everywhere and that the Paris business world in its entirety will be keen to be associated with this patriotic charity and to ensure its outcome. From the richest to the most humble all our fellow citizens will want to offer their gift, grand or modest. To the food gifts will be added those thousand trifles from Paris where the delightful imagination of our workers blossoms, so rightly comparable to the serene skill of the artists of the trench. Coming from every purse, collected in the shops, encouraged by appeals in Le Matin, centralised in the Town Halls, sent through the vigilant care of the National Aid and Providence Committee in support of soldiers, le Christmas and New Year Gifts from Paris will make their way safely towards the line of combat, from West to East, and right to the distant fortresses where our prisoners think sadly of the pleasures of home, and will go to rejoice the youthful and sublime souls of our heroes. While awaiting the Great Christmas of our delivery, the Christmas of 1915 will appear to our soldiers as the star of joy and will bring them the radiant proof of our trust, admiration and love.
