M1915 Respirator Carrier (containing M1915 Gummimaske & Tin, and Filters): German
A khaki canvas bag of cylindrical shape that opens out to reveal a large compartment divided into three. The bag is fitted with two matching button-back belt loops and these are located at the back of the bag, permitting it to be worn hung horizontally at the leather waste belt beneath the rifle ammunition pouches for quick access. A central button-down tab permits the carrier to be opened, revealing three tins; two contain spare gas mask filters and one contains the mask itself.
This was the first standardized form of anti-gas equipment issued to the German army as a universal item. Carried at the lower left waist beneath the man's rifle ammuntion pouches, the carrier ensured that the contents did not make unwanted noise.
