badge, Australian, unit, 2/33rd Australian Infantry Battalion.
A grey disc on which a horizontal coloured oval, divided equally along the long axis, black over dark green.
Shoulder patch, 2/33 Australian Infantry Battalion. Formed as 72 Australian Infantry Battalion in the UK on 26 June 1940 and re-designated 2/33 on 28 October 1940. Disbanded January 1946. This patch was approved and issued, in Australia only, to the unit's reinforcements but they adopted the sign first issued in the UK when proceeding to the Middle East. The grey background indicates the unit was originally raised as part of the Second AIF prior to March 1942.
