Physical description
Wide-brimmed hat made of khaki felt. To the upturned (left) brim is fitted a square-shaped patch of khaki drill that features a maroon rectangle to the centre, with 'XV' machined in khaki thread. The pugaree is of light khaki and the uppermost fold is of black fabric. Fitted to the front is a brass cap badge of The East Yorkshire Regiment. The hat is complete with its leather sweatband and chinstrap.

This slouch hat was worn by Ernest Harris, who served (rank unknown) with the 1st Battalion, The East Yorkshire Regiment in Burma. The Battalion was already stationed in India when hostilities were declared and it was not until mid-April of 1945 when they finally deployed to Burma, being assigned to 99 Brigade. Briefly part of the 19th Indian Division, and seeing action along the Kalaw Road, they later joined the 17th Indian Division and participated in the final advance to Rangoon before returning to England in 1946.
