badge, formation, Australian, Australian Military Forces, AMF, General Service badge, South Vietnam
On a khaki rectangle, a representation of an arched trophy of swords and bayonets, in yellow with black detail, above a Queen’s crown in yellow and red, with below a yellow scroll with black lettering, “AUSTRALIAN MILITARY FORCES”.
Cossum (see bibliography below) states that a similar badge on a green ground was worn by Australian forces in Malaya.
The Australian General Service badge is often referred to as a “sunburst” but is intended to represent a Trophy of Arms. The design is based on the badge of the First Regiment of Australian Light Horse, which served with the Imperial Forces in South Africa 1899 – 1902. (See Cole, bibliography, below).
