A copy of the Holy Bible containing Old and New Testaments, the cover is of worn black leather and is impressed (in gold) on the spine with 'HOLY BIBLE Revised Version', the inside of the cover is handwritten with the name of the owner 'E. W. Leggatt, Capt: R.A.F. Holzminden 11/6/18', on the opposite page Leggatt's name is written again in pencil but with the addition of 'Capt RFC. 81.B.'
Part of an acquisition of items associated with the First World War experiences of Captain E W Leggatt as a prisoner of war in Holzminden Camp, Germany. The bible was used by Captain Leggatt. He was captured on 9th August 1916, and subsequently was one of the ten men who made a successful escape through the tunnel at Holzminden POW camp, Germany, on 23 July 1918.
