Rectangular silver cigarette case with hinged lid the top of which is inscribed "RAF DUXFORD/ CIVILIAN EMPLOYEES RACE/ 1927/ PRESENTED BY/ WING COMMANDER BARTON", the case is hallmarked inside.

This cigarette case was won by Geoffrey Overhill when he was fifteen, while he was working temporarily at RAF Duxford. He went on to an engineering apprenticeship at BTH in Rugby. At the start of the Second World War he joined the RAF and was trained in Britain and the USA. He qualified as a Sergeant pilot. He was shot down over the North Sea in 1943 and was killed. His name is included on the Whittlesford War Memorial, along with that of his father who fought and diead during the First World War.
